About

I Create Awesome Stuff

I have been working in the industry for more than 10 years and have progressed in my skills and expertise from Junior Art Director, at Rapp Collins Worldwide, to the Director of UX/UI Design at CareerCo. As Director of UX/UI Design, I helped define interaction models, user task flows, and UI specifications for a network of websites and digital products/services. My goal is to communicate scenarios, end-to-end experiences, interaction models, and screen designs to present the best user experience for both consumers and clients. I worked closely with our VP of UX/UI Design to develop and maintain design wireframes, mockups, and specifications as needed.

Visual Design

I focus on the aesthetics of a site using type, space, images, and color to achieve a successful visual design that enhances page function as well as engaging the user.

Brand Identity

I take visual components and pair them with a style guide to use as a framework that ensure the corporate image is coherent and consistent.

Interaction Design

I create engaging interfaces between the user and technology by anticipating the behaviors and actions of the audience.

How I Work

This Is My Process

Research

Doing research allows me to find out how others have approached a certain task and what their outcomes have been. Taking this information allows me to enhance/improve the concepts I come up with.

Concept

I like to sketch out new ideas using the "old-school" method of pad and pencil. Then, I create a visual guide of my ideas utilizing Photoshop and Illustrator to further discuss ideas with team members.

Develop

Make the ideas a reality. Whether it is a simple or complex idea, I can give it form.

CTO at CareerCo

Working with Kelly over the past 6 years has been a pleasure. Her professionalism and enthusiasm for her craft is always present in her work. She has repeatedly produced designs that have addressed both business requirements and technical challenges while providing a smooth and effective user experience. Her greatest skill is her ability to take a vague or incomplete specification and produce a complete and usable design. Over the time I have worked with her, Kelly has continually upgraded her knowledge and understanding of design concepts and of the available tools used in the industry. As a result she is an invaluable resource to everything we do at CareerCo and would bring added value to any project she participates in. I would highly recommend Kelly for any design project and would recommend including her as early in the process as possible to take advantage of her keen design insights.

Gina LaGuardia

VP of Content Development & Social Media at Career Co & Owner, GL Editorial Services

I've worked with Kelly for almost a decade, and I haven't yet stopped being impressed with her creativity, artistic and digital abilities, and team-player persona. Together we've worked on articles, blogs, newsletters, white papers, TV and radio commercials, videos, photo shoots, and more -- and she has always stepped into each project with enthusiasm and talent. When our company evolved from a print magazine company to an online publishing and marketing leader many years back, Kelly amazingly handled everything with ease. To this day, Kelly continually works to improve and enhance her skills to adapt to the latest technologies related to web design, user experience, and functionality. She's an asset to our team, and one of those graphic design/technology innovators who meshes well with all divisions – from editorial and marketing, to sales, corporate, and everything in between!

My Experience & Skills

This Is My Journey

As CareerCo's Director of UX/UI Design, I help define interaction models, user task flows, and UI specifications for a network of websites and digital products/services. My goal is to communicate scenarios, end-to-end experiences, interaction models, and screen designs to present the best user experience for both consumers and clients. I work closely with our VP of UX/UI Design to develop and maintain design wireframes, mockups, and specifications as needed.
I was responsible for guiding a team of employees in the product development process for numerous areas of marketing, advertising and web design. I was responsible developing creative guidelines and directing creative work, including print collateral, websites, email campaigns, and many related tasks.
As an art director I was responsible for the visual style and images for our CB Teen Magazine, newspaper ads, and a variety of marketing material. I helped develop the overall style of the publication and branding of the company. I was able to determine how to visually represent the company and present these designs for approval.
As a junior art director I was responsible for creating visual concepts in response to clients’ briefs and relaying them to the art director. This work involves all media platforms, including direct marketing materials, press and print advertising, television and video, and logos and branding.

I often worked with a copywriter to develop ideas and concepts. The job demanded the confidence to creatively assert ideas and demonstrate the passion to sell ideas to peers and clients. I also had some responsibility to help develop the design offering of an agency. I was proactive and self-directed in my approach, and had a genuine understanding of the visual medium. The role was very "hands-on" and often busy, and I thrived on the responsibility and opportunity.
